Hellcats Win Front Range Faceoff Tournament

The 'Kitties' won their first ever tournament over Mother's Day weekend - the 8th Annual Front Range Faceoff Tournament in Denver, CO.  Here's how things went at the Front Range Faceoff Tournament:

There were 12 teams in Hellcats' Level, including teams from California, Florida, Utah, Minnesota, and Colorado.

The 'Kitties' beat the Oakland, CA Seals in their first game 2-0 (Laura Tullos scored both goals). In the second game, the Hellcats beat the Denver Ice Monkeys by the same score, 2-0 (Molly Marquez and Tig Moore scored, while Kandice Torno earned her second straight shutout). The Hellcats then won their third game 6-2 against the Pueblo Little Caesars, which landed them in the semi-finals on Sunday morning (Laura Tullos, Kristi Burk, Nadine Barber, Ayla Moore, and Tig Moore scored - Tig had 2 goals). In the semi's the 'Kitties' beat the Denver Rockies 2-0, as Torno earned her third shutout in 4 games (Beth O'Dowd and Kristi Burk scored the goals).  In the Finals the Hellcats beat the Minnesota Renegades 4-1, scoring 4 unanswered goals in the game, after giving up one a couple minutes into the game (the goals were scored by Ayla and Tig Moore - Tig scored a hat-trick and was named game MVP).

The Hellcats out-shot all 5 teams they played en route to the title.  Defensemen, Marquez, Jess Hamill, Jen Allison, and Amy Foss where outstanding throughout the tournament, as was goalie Torno.  It was the first time a Durango area women's travel team has won a tournament with as many as 12 teams competing in the same level.

Barber Scores Twice, Hellcats Win 1st Playoff Game

Nadine Barber dented the twine twice helping the Hellcats earn their first ever DAHL Playoff win against Hurtz Doughnut on Tuesday, April 28th.  The Hellcats out-shot Hurtz 25-10 en route to a convincing 4-1 victory.  Forwards Beth O'Dowd and Brian Fredrick also scored for the 'Kitties', while Darin Ferguson was a wall between the pipes.  Kristi Burk, Leslie Perkins, Molly Marquez, O'Dowd, and Fredrick helped setup the goals, while Laura Tullos, Jess Hamill, Jen Allison, and Amy Foss turned in solid performances.

Hellcats On DAHL Playoff 4-Game Win Streak

The 'Kitties' had a strong showing this past weekend, defeating long-time nemesis, Pagosa 1-0 (in OT), Gazpacho 2-1 (in OT), and Pioneers (1-0).

Hellcats Shutout Hurtz Doughnut, 4-0

The Hellcats got back on track with a 4-0 win over Hurtz Doughnut on Monday, April 13th.  Captain Laura Tullos scored twice in the third period to secure the win for the Kitties.  'Bobcat' Brian Fredrick also scored a pair in the victory.  Defenseman Amy Foss earned an assist on Fredrick's first goal.  Also picking up assists were Nadine Barber, Fredrick, and Tullos.  The game marked the debut of the newest Hellcat, Defenseman Leslie Perkins.  Taylor Folmar turned aside 10 shots while earning the shutout.  Forwards Tullos, Fredrick, Barber, Molly Marquez, Beth O'Dowd, and Kristi Burk all played well, as did defensemen Foss, Perkins, Jen Allison, and Jess Hamill.

NHL Experience Tournament in Phoenix, AZ

The Hellcats ventured out of state to participate in the inaugural 'NHL Experience' tournament in Phoenix, AZ the first weekend of November.

They started out strong, shutting-out the Tucson Chilly Peppers 4-0 in the opener.  Beth O'Dowd, Laura Tullos, Molly Marquez, and Kandice Torno tallied goals for the Hellcats, while Phoenix-area goalie Jessica Branham earned the shutout for her play between the pipes.  Game 2 found the Hellcats on the losing end of a 4-0 score against the San Diego Heartbreakers.  The final game of the tournament pitted the Hellcats against the host team, the Phoenix Scorpions.  A 1-1 tie (goal was scored by O'Dowd) after regulation play and a scoreless 'Sudden-Death' overtime session resulted in the teams playing a Shoot-Out to decide the winner. Marquez and Torno scored in the Shoot-Out for the Hellcats, while Branham stopped 4 of the 5 shooters she faced, earning her second win in three games.
